Polenta: the sunshine shade

Interiors

Meet Polenta, Neptune's new-season paint shade. Softer than yellow, more cocooning than cream, it brings a subtle warmth to period and contemporary homes.

For more than 20 years, we've been a Neptune partner store, retailing a carefully-curated collection of timeless furniture, homeware and paint by this great British brand. Each season, Neptune brings out a new paint shade which, in turn, informs upholstery, fabrics and furniture.

Polenta

Polenta, inspired by the Italian dish from which it takes its name, is a delicate buttery yellow. Pale and creamy, with a hint of black for depth, it works in almost every room, from the kitchen to the bathroom, the dining room to the hallway.

"Yellows bring interiors to life," says Annie Blackledge, part of the interior design team at Holloways. "Even if you think you don't like yellow, there'll be a space in your home which will come alive with a yellow scheme, whether that's a cloakroom, a guest bedroom or a piece of furniture in your home office.

"Subtle or vibrant, there's a shade to suit you. Yellow brings joy and warmth, and Polenta is one of the most subtle incarnations if you're not quite ready to take the sunshine-bright plunge."

As a mid-shade, Polenta strikes the perfect balance between a neutral and a colour, making it versatile and welcoming. Annie loves to lighten Polenta with Salt or Silver Birch, or the fresh and creamy Orkney White, inspired by the soft white sands of Hebridean beaches. And because it's so delicate and subtle, it's the perfect shade for colour-drenching, on walls, ceilings, skirting and furniture.

Kitchens are the ideal spaces for Polenta, whether it's on the walls or cabinetry. It's fresh and inviting in the day, invoking calm and a feeling of home. At night, it grows in intensity.

On a kitchen table, Annie loves to brighten Polenta with richer, Saffron table linen – think the rich golds of antique tapestries – and candles. New Amberley tableware has a subtle thread of yellow running through its textured finish. You'll find both in our Neptune store-in-store.
