Rhubarb, Neptune's vibrant new-season shade, sits somewhere between coral and a rich, earthy, red. Mix with blues and russets for a palette reminiscent of the Newlyn painters and heady summer days. Pair with saffron for a Provencal feel, or soften with subtle Moss for a calming scheme.
Here's how to introduce this glorious pinky-orange to your home this spring.
Rhubarb, Paprika and Cotswold
Cotswold is Neputne's honeyed stone shade – a warm and neutral base to underpin a bold palette. Paint a statement wall with Rhubarb, introduce the earthy red of Paprika in accessories and weave in soothing blues like Blakeney Blue for a scheme reminiscent of long, hot, summer days by the sea – think Cornwall in late summer. This palette works best with natural linen upholstery and textured flooring – it's perfect in a library, study or home office. In a kitchen, it's stunning with the rich, cobalt blue of Spode, marble and old pine.
Rhubarb and Saffron
Rhubarb's warm terracotta and classic rose tones come to life as daylight dwindles to evening. Saffron's vibrant 'true yellow' pigment works well with this pinky-orange in sitting rooms and kitchens. If Rhubarb walls are a bridge too far, introduce the shade with accessories. Think Persian or Kilim rugs; cushions in Linara linen and curtains and blinds in one of Neptune's washed linens for a relaxed, lived-in look.
Neptune's designers recommend pairing Rhubarb with mid and dark greens like Cactus or Constable Green to create a natural, verdant feel.
Rhubarb, Moss and Fine Mahogany
The calming blue-greens of Moss paired with vibrant Rhubarb make for a fresh bedroom or bathroom scheme. Cool, yet never cold, Moss is the perfect foil for its russet tones, picked up by the undertones of Fine Mahogany, to be used sparingly as a secondary accent shade. Flax Blue is brighter, but works just as well.
