Meet Burnt Sienna, Neptune’s new-season terracotta.
Redolent of sun-kissed Tuscan walls and hazy afternoons in Provence, it’s at once warm and earthy, rich and soothing.
Never overpowering in a scheme, it can be dialled up or down depending on the shade you pair it with.
Burnt Sienna can be the jumping off point for schemes in bedrooms, sitting rooms, garden rooms and even kitchens.
Neptune by Holloways Sales Adviser Victoria Twinberrow shows you how different pairings can create different moods in your home.
Salt
Neptune’s chalky white brings a relaxing freshness to a Burnt Sienna scheme.
More Salt, and the space is delicate and calming.
More Sienna, and there’s an instant warmth, reassuringly underpinned by comfort and tradition.
Paired with the palest Oyster Pink of Imogen linen, they make for a beautifully serene scheme in a bedroom or sunny sitting room.
“Together, they’re a fabulous partnership,” says Victoria.
“They work really well in a sunny garden room or light-filled sitting room.
“And paired with old terracotta tiles and Salt cabinetry, Burnt Sienna is show-stopping as a pop of colour on a painted kitchen island or pantry.”
Try: Adding a custom-painted Ardingly cabinet in Burnt Sienna to a neutral kitchen scheme. Bring warmth with accessories like the Randall kitchen apron and Neptune’s Stanton teak bowls. Or create a calming home office with Burnt Sienna walls and the Ardingly, painted below in Salt.
Moss
Sienna is of the earth, deliberately understated, and so it sits well with botanical greens.
Think the Arts & Crafts style of William Morris, with swirls of Moss and Sienna intertwined on wallpapers and fabrics, and touches of the palest pink for freshness.
“You can have a lot of fun with layers of pattern when it comes to these shades,” says Victoria. “Subtly-printed fabrics with neutral flooring - think sisal, wood or an oversized Tolsey plaid rug in Oatmeal - work really well in dining rooms.
“Or try Burnt Sienna on the inside of a wardrobe in a pretty bedroom to surprise and delight guests.”
Try: Adding the hand-block thistle pattern of the Olney serving bowls to a summer or autumnal dining scheme. Bring depth with accessories in Harry linen in Rust - Burnt Sienna’s deeper cousin - and freshness with window treatments in Lara linen in Burnt Sienna. Dining chairs in Havana Lloyd Loom will introduce texture.
Flax Blue
Timeless and elegant, Flax Blue on its own is hazy and calming.
Paired with the deep pigmentation of Burnt Sienna - think Tuscan skies and terracotta rendered walls - it’s perfectly at home in a south or east-facing sitting or bedroom where the combination of warm peaches and cool blues is a thing of beauty.
Sitting directly across the colour wheel, Flax Blue also works brilliantly with the slubbed, vintage look of Neptune’s Harry linen, in Rust.
Try: A collection of Burnt Sienna pillar candles on a console or coffee table and add an Otterburn throw and Grace scatter cushions to bring seasonal warmth to a cool sitting room scheme. Neptune’s Sefton throw in Rust will add cosiness and a pop of colour for chillier evenings.
Outside, the verdant greens of the garden are the perfect foil for the warmth of terracotta.
Terracotta pots and planters by Holloways Garden Antiques are as at home on a contemporary terrace as they are in a sunny courtyard or on sweeping lawns outside a period property.
From statement citrus planters, big enough to sustain a specimen tree, to ornate Italian pots and planters perfect for spring bulbs or a frothy summer display, there is a vast range on display in the antiques courtyards at Holloways Worcestershire showrooms.
Hand-thrown by craftsmen in the factory in Tuscany which has supplied us for for more than 20 years, they're made from the local Galestro clay and fired at extremely high temperatures, so are highly frost-resistant.
