A Window on the World

Interiors

What is the right window treatment for you? We know people struggle with this question because there are so many factors and fashions involved. Let’s take a look at the options - and don’t forget that our interior advisers at Holloways are only too glad to look at ideas, fabrics and styles with you.

Light and Shade

Do you need to keep the room light, or you looking for privacy? In some rooms you will need to maximise on the available light and in others, especially in a conservatory, you might be looking for shade and heat protection.

sheer curtains

Sheer full-length curtains with eyelet headings

In this converted barn, with a wall of windows, we thought that a wall of sheer fabric provided piracy, but still allows plenty of light to come in. We used a contemporary eyelet heading hung from a pole well above the height of the window. Almost disappearing during the day, at night the curtains make the room feel warm and private.

Pull it together

Interlined curtains keep warmth in and feel very cosy. A handmade pleated heading with interlined curtains is not only luxurious, but ensures that the curtains hang in perfect folds. A more relaxed and feminine gathered heading, in the photo on the right, is delightful for a bedroom.

Our interior advisors at Holloways will help you choose the right fabric from our vast selection, then our curtain-maker Jo will visit you to measure up and estimate how much fabric is needed. She will advise you on the different styles that would suit your window, what heading to choose and linings. Long or short, lined, interlined or sheer – we will find the right solution. Your lovely new curtains will be handmade by local craftsmen.

We also have a fabulous selection of beautiful ready-made curtains in standard sizes. This can be a cost effective option for standard-sized windows.

Blind Faith

Roman Blinds

A fully-lined Roman Blind

Roman Blinds are made-to-measure fabric blinds that pull up to soft folds. A cost-effective solution if you want to use a stunning fabric.

They are perfect for small windows in kitchens, bathrooms and garden rooms. If positioned above the window they will allow lots of light in, but are easily raised and lowered for privacy.

Stay in the Shade

Conservatory Blinds – made-to-measure pinoleum blinds.

Conservatory blinds don’t just look good - they also help maintain a constant and comfortable temperature so you can enjoy your conservatory all year round. In the summer they protect plants and furnishings from harmful UV rays. In the winter they help reduce heat loss, creating a more private and cosy atmosphere.

You may also like to consider high performance heat reduction blinds, or contemporary pleated blinds. We will always send someone to your home to measure the windows, advise on the choices and give you an estimate.

Shutter up

wooden shutters

Wooden shutters let a dappled light into the room through the French windows

Do you need a very practical solution, but also want it to look amazing? Wooden shutters, also known as American shutters, plantation shutters, or louvre shutters, are a smart, contemporary alternative to curtains or blinds. It’s easy to control the level of light in your room. On sunny days light streams brightly through the slats or, with a quick flick of the slim louvres, you can instantly create cool shade. And on a dark winter's night, making a warm and cosy atmosphere is easy.

Window shutters look at home in traditional or modern houses and are available in lots of different styles and finishes. Shutters can be supplied in any colour you choose, including Farrow and Ball and Fired Earth paint ranges. There are special water resistant finishes for bathrooms and kitchens.

So much choice – there is something for every window! Our interior advisers are on hand to help, so don’t be afraid to ask us.
