Pops of Colour

Oscar chaise sofa

From loft apartments to town houses, interior design doesn’t have to be dull.

Decorating with primary colours can be done subtly to create bright, yet understated spaces.

Brights have fallen out of favour in recent years in favour of paler, calmer interiors.

But adding bold colours can be done in a way that’s sophisticated and subtle – the trick is to add pops, rather than swathes, of these primary hues.

Think accent shades, rather than large, dominant doses.

Oscar two-seater sofa

Sofas and occasional chairs in fiery reds, sunny  yellows and iridescent blues add a touch of fun to a scheme, and will create a focal point in even the smallest, most neutral of spaces.

A much needed dose of drama and style comes courtesy of the Oscar collection.

Small on footprint, big on style, these sofas, chaises and armchairs are most at home upholstered in look-at-me velvets in Sunny Flame, pictured, or Sunny Kingfisher, their natural wood legs softening the contrast between their bright upholstery and more neutral walls.

Scatter cushions in geometric prints inject personality, and can be changed with the seasons to freshen the room.

In tight spaces, add compact side and coffee tables in matt metals, and accessories with playful lamps and prints on the walls.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match colour, shape and texture – layering a space makes it inviting and welcoming.

We love the boucle texture of this Missy occasional chair, seen here in Colby Saffron.

Missy occasional chair

A fabulous foil to greys and whites, it’s perfect for adding a splash of colour to a contemporary bedroom or hallway.

The contemporary Otis occasional chair comes in a striking Lana Emerald fabric, while Neptune’s George sofa, with oak legs in a variety of natural finishes, comes in rich Isla Kingfisher or Isla Mallard velvets – its stately aesthetic equally at home in townhouses and country homes.

Velvet scatters in shades from Finch to Mallard and Kingfisher will tie a scheme together.
