Things to do in Worcestershire and the Malvern Hills

Holloways is in Suckley, a quintessentially English village in a beautiful part of Worcestershire, with its own brewery – The Hop Shed – just along the lane. We're a stone's throw from the cathedral city of Worcester; the Malvern Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is on our doorstep; the undulating footpaths of the Worcestershire Way are just a farm field away and Herefordshire's famously beautiful black-and-white villages are just a short drive from our door.

There's so much to do and so many interesting places to explore. Why not come and stay for the weekend?  We're dog-friendly and so are many of our favourite places to stay.

City of Worcester

On the border of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, we're surrounded by glorious landscapes and historic towns and villages.

At the heart of the county is the cathedral city of Worcester. Steeped in history – the decisive Battle of Worcester took place here during the Civil War, the charming cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings witness to Charles II's defeat at the hands of Cromwell's Parliamentarians.

The majestic cathedral, rising up from the banks of the River Severn, dates back to 1084 and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year while the Museum of Royal Worcester charts the history of this world-famous ceramic industry. The remarkable medieval interior of the National Trust's Greyfriars is well worth a visit, and there are river cruises to be had.

Cathedral Square offers an exciting mix of shopping, restaurants and bars, and there are plenty of riverside cafes and walks to enjoy. Plus you can catch world-class cricket at Worcestershire County Cricket Club's New Road ground, plus Premiership rugby at Worcester Warriors.

Beyond the city

Just beyond the city are more delightful places to visit, from Elgar’s Birthplace Museum to Capability Brown's magnificent landscape at Croome Park – both owned by the National Trust – and the romantic ruin of Witley Court, managed by English Heritage. The historic Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb brings thrilling motorsport to the countryside.

Malvern Hills

There are miles of walks – and great pubs – in and around the breathtaking Malvern Hills, the inspiration for many of Elgar's most famous compositions, while Malvern Theatres plays host to West End touring shows, critically-acclaimed plays and concerts.
